The deal, in plain language
Terms
Last updated August 17, 2026
These are short because the deal is simple: you bring your life, we keep it in a file you own, and we try hard not to let you down while Helm is still growing up.
The short version: Helm is beta software offered as-is. Your content is yours. The AI helps but can be wrong. Be reasonable with the service, and you can take your file and go anytime.
Beta, honestly
Helm is young. Features will change, occasionally break, and sometimes disappear as we learn. Every change to your brain is a git commit with full history, which is real protection — but for anything truly critical, keep your own copy too (the Download button exists for exactly this).
The beta is free. If paid plans arrive, we’ll tell you clearly before anything changes for you — no surprise paywalls around data you already put in.
Your content
Everything you put into Helm stays yours. You give us permission to store and process it only as needed to run the service — filing your captures, rendering your app, backing your history. We claim no other rights to it, and what we do with it is spelled out in the privacy policy.
The AI can be wrong
Helm uses AI to route captures, extract items from photos, and organize your file. It’s good, and it’s not perfect: it will sometimes file things oddly or read a photo wrong. That’s why every capture shows where it landed and offers Undo and Move. Helm is an organizer, not an advisor — double-check anything consequential before acting on it.
Playing fair
Use Helm for your own life and work, lawfully. Don’t probe for access to other people’s brains, hammer the capture API, or use the service to store content that’s illegal or harms others. We can suspend accounts that abuse the service — and if we ever discontinue Helm, we’ll give you notice and time to take your file with you.
The legal floor
Helm is provided as-is, without warrantiesof any kind. To the fullest extent the law allows, our total liability for anything arising from the service is limited to what you’ve paid us for it (during the free beta: nothing). These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, USA.
If we materially change these terms, we’ll update the date up top and tell active users before the change applies. Questions: hello@madronaproduct.com. Helm is built by Madrona Product Studio.
